Royal privilege for Poznań and the Greater Poland Land Rabbi Naftali Izaakowicz

August II Wettin confirms the rights and privileges of the Poznań Land Rabbi Naftali Izaakowicz and releases him from any responsibility for debts drawn by the land of Greater Poland. He appoints him the highest judge for Greater Poland communities (with a yearly salary from Greater Poland poviats) responsible for all the communities including those paying poll tax separately and Jews from nobility estates who were not allowed to be protected by local landlords to avoid the results of a rabbinical court ruling. Communities trying to avoid the supremacy of the land of Greater Poland will be punished with 2000 marks. The rulings of the land rabbi are undisputable and final. The rabbi’s arguments with other Greater Poland Jews should be determined at a Jewish council in Jarosław. Land elders are obliged to cover debts and give them back to the rabbi on behalf of their unreliable debtors from their towns.
